It’s not the Fall…

Well Autumn suddenly seems to have arrived and I can’t quite put my finger on when the greens turned to oranges but I’m so glad they did!

Driving through my local town yesterday, the canopy of trees with a bed of orange and yellow beneath them made it seem as if the sun was shining even though it was a bit of a grey old day. It was so glorious I stopped to take a photo.

One of the most rewarding things about “retiremancy” is having the time to stop and really appreciate what’s around me. I was walking on the beach with my parents and dogs two days ago when suddenly my mum pointed out dolphins! Lots of them live in the Moray Firth but over the last 25 years I have rarely seen them. These were really close to the beach and we just stood and watched them in awe and delight!!

Sitting in the hot tub this morning (oh come on, I haven’t even mentioned it once yet!!!) I was amazed at the cacophony of birdsong even at this time of year – and I’m not just talking about the thousands of migrating geese that eat in the field by our house. The bird feeder is covered and if only I had nicked my birding friend Als swanky 500mm lens I might even have got some good photos of them!!

The point is not to try and be a nature teacher (although we should all enjoy it more!), but as I was driving past bright yellow ferns beneath orange and red trees yesterday it occurred to me that this time of year should not be called The Fall (as our American friends call it) but The Lift because the colours brighten our days and give us something other than whatsapp memes to smile about!!

Happy Friday everyone. Enjoy The Lift!!
